Estimator
My role involves taking a project from the early stages of design and developing the budgets and estimates needed to turn those plans into a successful sports facility. That means digging into plans and specifications, developing quantities, working with subcontractors and suppliers, evaluating costs, and collaborating with our team to put together a competitive and realistic estimate. I enjoy that no two projects are exactly alike, and there is always something new to figure out. What I enjoy most is the problem-solving aspect of estimating. I’ve always enjoyed math, numbers, and logical problem solving, and estimating gives me the opportunity to apply those strengths to my career every day. There is something satisfying about taking a complicated project with a lot of moving pieces and working through the details to develop a plan and a number that makes sense. I also really enjoy the people and the industry itself. Sports construction is a pretty unique niche, and I take a lot of pride in being part of a company that cares about the quality of its work. The job definitely has its stressful days and weeks, but after more than eight years, I still genuinely enjoy what I do and the people I get to work with. Most importantly, it’s rewarding to know that the projects we help build will be used by athletes and communities for years to come.

What project are you most proud of working on, and why? The Buffalo Bills’ new NFL stadium stands out as the project I am most proud of working on for a few reasons. First, it was one of the most challenging, time-consuming, and lengthy estimating processes I have been involved with. The size and complexity of the stadium, along with the specialized requirements of a professional-level natural grass field, pushed me to learn a lot throughout the process and gave me the opportunity to expand my knowledge and experience. Beyond the estimating and technical side of the project, it is incredibly rewarding to know that SCG helped build a field at one of the highest levels of professional sports. The field will be seen by thousands of fans in the stadium and millions of people watching around the world, and it will be used by professional NFL athletes. Knowing that I played a role in bringing that project from an estimate to a finished field is something I take a lot of pride in.
Which SCG Core Value resonates with you the most and why? We thrive on innovation and demand quality. I chose this value because it is something that applies to my role at SCG every day. I am constantly learning new things about our industry, new technologies and construction methods, and different ways we can build the highest-quality facilities possible. There is always an opportunity to improve how we approach a project, solve a problem, or push the boundaries of what is possible. I also think this mindset is important because our industry is constantly evolving. As an estimator, I need to continue developing my knowledge so that I can understand new products, systems, and construction techniques and help our team find the best solutions for each project. That constant pursuit of improvement allows me to continue developing as a Certified Field Builder while also taking pride in the quality of the work we ultimately deliver. For me, innovation is not just about doing something new—it is about continually finding ways to do things better and holding ourselves to a higher standard.

Hidden Talent or Fun Fact: I am my father’s fourth child, born when he was 38 years old. My only son is also my fourth child, and I had him when I was 38. Because of that coincidence, I often feel like I’m getting to relive parts of my own childhood with him. Every moment with him brings me back to the time I spent with my dad, but now I get to experience those memories from the other side—as the dad. It’s a pretty special feeling.
